CIF-SS Power Ratings Tool

FAQ

A Quick thing to know about scores on cifsshome - Each contest has two scores, one for each team. This report (and the Massey Ratings) account for that by ignoring any scores where the date and teams are the same. But, it's important to know that what you see on the report may be incorrect even if you have it correct on your cifsshome because your opponent may have reported it wrong.

Question: A score is incorrect on the report. Can you fix it?

Answer: Only the coaches of the two teams have the ability to add or modify scores. If it is incorrect, your team should check their cifsshome page to see if it's correct. If it is, then your opponent must have reported it wrong. In that case you must contact them and ask them to fix it.

Question: One of my scores is listed twice. Can you delete one of them?

Answer: No. Only the coaches of the two teams in each contest have that ability. Look closely at the dates as the report ignores duplicates when the date is the same, but will show the score if the date differs from the other.

Question: Why is my team rated below a team we beat?

Answer: The ranking is a "body of work" kind of thing. What the ratings are telling you are that the other team's body of work is greater. You have every right to disagree and those who make polls may make adjustments based on head-to-head matches, but the rankings look at things at a much bigger level than we do. Personally, as a coach I see it this way - some of my greatest wins were over teams who were better than mine. The fact that they were better doesn't change the fact that my team won.

Question: My strength of schedule is weaker than I think it should be. Can you fix it?

Answer: If you want a stronger Strength of Schedule, schedule stronger teams. This is one of the simplest measures, it simply makes a number based on the ratings of all your opponents.

This report is provided so that you can find errors in your scores and get them fixed. Your team's division will be made based on the data contained in this report, and you deserve to know if bad data is going to be a part of that. If that is the case, fix it as noted in the first two answers.

I am only here to provide the report so you can see the data, not to fix it for you.
